What’s a clear sign that your product has worked its way into popular culture? Brand materials may be printed, developed and distributed, but chances are you’ll know when you’re making labels that have caught on with your audience, as they will start making their appearance in other forms of media. This is especially true with the easy proliferation of blogs and Tumblrs available on the web.
One such project that’s getting some attention is the work of Trevor Carmick, who started a Tumblr called “Beer Labels in Motion.” Carmick, a video editor by trade, has taken the images familiar to many a beer aficionado and turned them into animated gifs. The animations build on the existing designs of brands like Magic Hat, Lagunitas and Dogfish Head, taking these logos and giving them a simple bit of motion.
Although this appears to have been done simply out of love for the brands in question, you couldn’t ask for better press. The shark on the Dogfish pint swims around full circle, while the white shadow of the eponymous creature on Great Divide Brewing Company’s “Yeti” stalks in the background. The fact that someone like Carmick would dedicate the time and passion to making these images functions as a signal back to the creators that they did something right.
Using a color label printer can help open up realms of possibilities when it comes to the images you’d like to incorporate into your beer or wine labels, so that you can achieve the kind of fan support that creates higher levels of interest.
