Although food labels with important nutrition and ingredient information are an expected sight on the average package these days, there’s no guarantee that customers will necessarily take them to heart. Even if some do, that doesn’t mean that the target audience for a particular product is among them, or that they even know who they are. This is where crafting labels with an eye to inform the public can be greatly important.
A recent Gallup Consumption Habits Survey, using information gathered this July, found that the majority of those Americans who take the statistics on food labels seriously only do so “a fair amount” of the time, and even that number is under 40 percent.
In addition, the survey examined the racial, economic and gender differences between judgments made on provided food information. Though there is a noted disparity in certain categories, with 12 percent of women more likely to read food labels than men, in all cases food nutrition details appear to be noticed more often than those listed on menus in restaurants. Higher levels of education and income also seem to make it more likely that someone will pay more attention to these labels.
Your consumers may or may not be scrutinizing these labels to make a purchasing decision, but whether they currently are, your company can work on investing more in this area to increase customer understanding. Using a color label printer can help simplify this process of preparation and perhaps give the packaging your item is contained in a better chance to stand out from the crowd.
