Packaging Digest recently profiled the work of Blue Blood Brewing Company, a Nebraska-based brewery that has turned to thick, textured paper labels for one of its series. The paper material, which is locally sourced, contributes to the impact of the design, which presents a stylish look that features an old-fashioned font. In addition, the preprinted labels now used for the company’s Outlaw series of beverages has been adjusted recently to accommodate expanding demand and also to include new copy on the back.
The company wanted to hammer home the originality of its beverages for the consumer, which is why it took the extra effort to make the right look to make the right look. The handmade paper labels took longer than most but came with a unique feel that emphasized its handmade nature.
Brian Podwinski, owner of Blue Blood, connected this design strategy with his company’s evolving sense of itself as a brand.
“We knew it would be unique,” he said, adding “we don’t know of anyone else doing this.” Referring to the changes made to the labels as the series grew, Podwinski added that “this series wasn’t expected to be big, but it is growing quickly so we have modified a few things including now using preprinted labels.”
Primera LX900 color label printer users have multiple paper choices for their food and beverage labels.
