Vitamin supplements may seem relatively harmless, but consumers need to always be aware of exactly what they are putting into their bodies, especially when it comes to drugs that are found outside of a doctor’s office. Even with all the regulations surrounding what can and can’t go on labels for medicine, inevitably some things slip through the cracks.
There are, of course, different brands of vitamins, and one in particular has been recently addressed by the Food and Drug Administration for comprising of what it called “two potentially harmful anabolic steroids” in a press release.
Mira Health Products’ supplement, Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity First B-50, is the brand in question, and came under investigation after users reported several symptoms reminiscent of steroid use, like reduced testosterone in men and unexpected appearance of body hair in women. As a result, the agency is advising consumers to consult professional guidance before taking additional medications, even over the counter items like this one.
The release quoted the FDA’s Howard Sklamberg as describing the seriousness of this sort of misrepresentation.
“Products marketed as a vitamin but which contain undisclosed steroids pose a real danger to consumers and are illegal,” he said.
It is unclear as of now whether this case is going to progress into further legal action.
Any company marketing a product needs to take the time to make sure its vitamin labels don’t miss any important additives, as the result could lead to significant damage to consumers. As such, you can make it easier to get information down on your product labels with the help of a color label printer.
