The different flavors of cookies under the Oreo brand have expanded over the past years, and recently a new type appeared that could engage fans of this popular snack aisle staple. But when there’s a flavor that’s similar to a previous one, the distinctions need to be outlined successfully by custom printed labels.
A piece on Today examines the newest offering from this company, which are “Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup”-flavored Oreos. It may be somewhat confusing to shoppers because, as the piece notes, peanut butter-flavored Oreos already exist, and that already means that this new flavor has to work hard to distinguish itself.
While this article describes the enthusiastic reaction of the journalistic staff to these cookies, there’s no guarantee that it will have the same kind of appeal to most buyers, especially since the creme filling is half-and-half split between two flavors rather than one full peanut butter filling that they might be expecting.
The brand manager for Oreo, Danielle Brown, described the process by which it developed this cookie.
“We have a great admiration of Reese’s and following conversations and collaborations with the Reese’s brand over the past 12 months, we determined this cookie is the perfect combination of flavors,” she said.
A look at the package this cookie comes in, as seen in the USA Today story on it, shows how the Reese’s logo is still visible against the traditional Oreo packaging and the giant image of a peanut butter cup to drive the message home.
This isn’t the only way to try and make a new flavor appeal distinctly, and colored labels can be arranged to attempt to make the message clear for customers.
