It’s not uncommon for well-known, public figures to develop their own line of wine or food labels as a side project from their standard careers. As such, these individuals will usually rely heavily on their public image while creating their custom labels, as this can help target a pre-sold audience, with the new product potentially widening their market.
The New York Post reports that several applications for “Oprah’s Organics” and “Oprah’s Farm” were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Organization on October 29. The organic label will offer items such as bath soaps, sunscreen, massage oils and hair products with some produce. Oprah’s Farm and another trademark, “Oprah’s Harvest,” were also filed for a beverage catering service.
“The trademarks were filed for Oprah’s farm on Maui to enable the farm to grow and distribute produce on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian islands,” one of Winfrey’s representatives told the Post.
Oprah’s Maui property covers hundreds of acres of farmland and includes a bed and breakfast already. According to Pacific Business, the filings are intended for production and sale in Maui and the other Hawaiian islands.
Oprah isn’t the only well-known figure to move into organic. Pacific Business also reports that Larry Ellison, the CEO of major technology company Oracle, plans to farm organic strawberries and other produce on the island of Lanai, which he recently purchased.
For companies that may have an endorsement agreement with a public figure, or for individuals starting their own label, investing in a Primera LX900 color label printer can help create the custom labels needed to effectively market the product and differentiate the brand from competitors.
