Last month, New York City welcomed its third annual hot sauce expo at the Brooklyn Expo center, where producers compared their wares and displayed their individuality. Like many condiments, hot sauce is often defined by its ingredients, but there are other facts that makers might focus on when designing and printing labels, like the level of spiciness. Likewise, the imagery often reflects the intense, spicy contents of a bottle.
The Village Voice describes some of the sights at this event, including an artwork contest between the different brands. With so many varieties to take in, the sauces were often distinguished by the individual types and amounts of peppers in each one, and such information is an obvious fit for sauce labels.
An item highlighted by the Voice’s Kevin Kessler was Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce, a powdered seasoning that commanded “one of the biggest lines” at the gathering. The source also said that more than 40 vendors were in attendance.
With so many competing brands, sauce companies can feel the pressure to stand out. Fortunately, colorful labels that make a sauce identifiable are easy to produce with multiple available printer options on the market.
The Primera LX900 and VIPColor VP485 color label printers can be used to create hot sauce labels that feel true to the brand and are attractive to buyers. Each one has its own advantages, but both are capable of producing thousands of labels per month that fit the sauce container and are durable for long-lasting use.
With clear bottles, labels on the outside can match the natural color of the sauce inside, or be simple enough to avoid distracting from a distinctive shade. Companies should take label considerations seriously, so they create pieces that aren’t just repeats of what their customers have seen before.
