Recently, we spoke about the ubiquity of peppermint, but let’s talk about one of the specific manifestations of this flavor: the candy cane.
When your products are as seasonally appropriate as this, on either a local or a national scale, you can benefit from the image of an old-school, traditional American manufacturer. This can be done by tailoring your candy labels so that they portray something fitting.
If there’s history associated with your craft as well, this is the time to cash in on that. CNN recently profiled Hammond’s, a candy company that has been operating within the United States for nearly a century. One of their specialties, according to CEO Andrew Schuman, is the various forms of the candy cane, which alone accounts for a major amount of their profits.
However, there’s a danger with this, and that’s relying too much on holiday products when they don’t cover your entire base. Designing a label that fits clearly within a larger selection might help with this. Trader Joe’s, for examples, is well known for the labels it features on its products that incorporate it’s name and logo into different settings.
Schumann told the source that this was on his mind as he ascended to take over the company six years ago.
“Hammond’s was focused on being a Christmas candy company rather than a candy company,” he said. “Even though the majority of our business is done later in the year, we wanted to grow our business and be perceived as a year-round company.”
So take in the joy of the season, but remember that a color label printer can help you keep customers interested all year round.
