What happens when candy labels need to match a new packaging type? Popular candy company Mars has introduced a spread based on the Twix candy, a cookie wrapped with chocolate and caramel. The spread version, available exclusively in the United Kingdom, combines the flavors of the candy bar into a mixture that’s clearly reminiscent of the hazelnut chocolate spread Nutella.
The Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats Europe page features multiple spreads based on other candy products, including some derived from brand names like Milky Way and Malteasers. The Twix spread is interesting, however, for the way that it translates the gold sheen of the packaging to an eye-catching jar label. Though there’s more information to include, the vibrant red of the font is still clear against the background, and a similarly red legend right below it tells the customer that the spread contains “crunchy biscuit pieces.”
“Innovation is a key factor in maximising sales and driving growth within this category,” said Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats general manager Michelle Frost, according to FoodBev Media. “Our spreads range combines great tastes and familiar brands, to offer greater retail choice and meet consumer demand for more indulgent spreads.”
Your brand’s version of new food and beverage labels may require some flexibility on the part of your printer. This is what makes a model that’s capable of many different types of colorful and durable labels so valuable.
The Primera LX900 prints water-resistant chocolate and sweets labels as well as prepared foods. You can design a new packaging-appropriate label from scratch or base it on pre-existing designs, as well as choose from a range of colors, shapes and gloss for the label material itself.
