Halloween may be over, but there are still lessons for manufacturers to learn from the ways candies were packaged and sold during this time. Candy consumption doesn’t end after the holiday, so each year can be an opportunity to learn more from consumers and improve candy labels. Although there are colors and images that will always be associated with Halloween, individual companies might want to design custom packaging that gives them an edge over the competition.
One concern for candy companies in all seasons is creating labels that are durable as well as vibrant. With the bold blacks and oranges of October treats, printing images that don’t run and stay clear even after contact with moisture is a worthy goal to have. In that sense, the pressure is on both finding a suitable label printer and pairing it with the right stock.
Writing for Packaging Digest, Lisa McTigue Pierce highlighted some of the most notable trends she discovered, including the prevalence of black and orange, which she thought made all of the candies look similar.
“The majority of secondary packages are flexible bags or pouches with more stand-up pouches than I ever remember seeing before (gotta love that vertical display!),” McTigue Pierce writes. “There were only a couple cartons and other rigid packages in an entire aisle of offerings.” She also noted that some brands didn’t specifically reference Halloween, but instead were more tied to “fall” imagery, perhaps leading to better longevity.
Purchasing a color label printer can help businesses tailor their food and beverage labels to brand specifications year-round, making it easier to adjust to the times and change to meet new tastes.
