Making labels is important, but so is maintaining a strong level of quality and a connection with consumers.Recently, the yogurt makers of Chobani recalled a long list of its yogurt flavors after reports of sickness surfaced online in an effort to stem consumer complaints.
While it may be unrealistic to expect food labels to say “product may be contaminated,” the way that Chobani is handling this upset is worth noting. The recall, which focuses on yogurt items distributed through one specific Idaho plant, addresses a wide variety of different flavors and sizes, including its vanilla and fruit-enhanced brands, as well as varying “percentage” levels. The business is also attempting to reassure customers and mitigate concern through its various online channels and claims the bad products are mostly recovered.
However, Chobani also hasn’t specified exactly what the cause of the reported illnesses was, other than claiming that it was a common mold found in the processing facility.
A color label printer might be of use in preempting these kinds of outbreaks by describing the process through which a product is manufactured on its label and including information that might better educate consumers as to what happens in its creation without turning them away.
Generally, it’s a good practice to be honest with those you hope will make use of your product. And since the Chobani outbreak included yogurt labels that were said to “puff” up, there can also be labeling solutions that allow for easy identification of tampered items that might help your brand image and those who put their trust in you.
