Protect against holiday tree fires with product warning labels

Consumer safety should be a top concern of any company producing goods for mass consumption, and certain risks are more evident in particular times of the year. For example, WJHG recently reported on the way Christmas trees can add a fire hazard to the home. Because they are potentially flammable, items being marketed around the holidays should come with labels that alert buyers to potential dangers.

One of the obvious hazards cited by the source are the strands of lights that often adorn homes around this time of year. Unfortunately, placing the wrong kinds of lights too close to a tree could lead to a fire hazard.

Speaking to the source, Florida tree salesman Mark Powell said that the different types of lights make a difference in terms of total risk, with LED lights generally being a safer bet.

“Incandescent they create more heat, and you can’t use as many on a strand,” he said. “People tend to. All that kinda stuff is how Christmas tree fires start. It’s the same way with artificial trees.”

Artificial trees can be another solution to this problem, as long as they have a label proving that they are fire resistant. The package can list the different ways users can protect their trees and the conditions they should avoid. Powell recommends this option for those who won’t be able to “attend” to the tree.

With printing solutions, a company that produces goods meant for holiday display will be able to gain more customer goodwill through sufficient consumer protections. These warning labels need to be both informative and easy enough for anyone to read. Color helps with this, as do printers that can be adjusted for different label sizes.
