Printing barcodes makes holiday inventory simpler

At the busy end of the year, companies may need extra assurance that their goods are traveling to the right places in their supply chain. Barcodes are useful for managing this process, and may help businesses better control and track their shipments within the system. A combination of capable software and an in-house printer makes this process simple for companies of all sizes.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the adjustments retail businesses have had to make in the current season, including anticipating the importance of volume over price. Because of low sales figures for the retail sector, some major brands are facing a higher amount of inventory than usual, requiring management strategies for the corresponding amount of content.

At any time of the year, printing your own barcodes helps directly address shipping and tracking needs with durable labels produced fresh from a printer like the Primera LX900. This model in particular offers efficient, high-speed volumes that best suit companies with lots of labels to consider.

In an interview with Credibly.com, Sabrina Parsons of Palo Alto Software described some of the precautions small businesses in particular should take regarding their merchandise during this time of year.

“The best thing a business can do is get into the habit of a quarterly review of inventory,” she said. “The best time to look at things is with 90 days of lead-time before a big season. If you have more time you can do more research, make sure you’re getting the best prices and so forth. Every 90 days you should be looking at your vendors and suppliers.”
