If you’ve followed this blog, you know we’ve been taking a closer look at the Primera LX2000 Color Label Printer recently. With so many labeling options out there, it’s worth looking at the ways each printer meets standard requirements. Today, we’re comparing the LX2000 with the Epson ColorWorks TM-C3500. Both are available to order now at the OptiMedia Labs store.
Ink Type and Quality
As we’ve mentioned before, ink quality is one of the LX2000’s selling points. It uses pigment ink that draws from four separate ink tanks included in the printer, and applies it smoothly to several label types, including polyester. The ink is ideal for labels that might be exposed to the elements, because it is resistant to light and water damage.
The TM-C3500 accepts pigment ink as well, specifically the DuraBrite cartridges. However, it also uses a MicroPiezo inkjet system that requires special print heads to make labels that dry quickly. Both printers are well-suited to making industrial chemical labels under the BS5609 certification standard.
Printer Preparation
The LX2000 comes with a built-in industrial grade cutter, described as a “pizza wheel” in the release, for separating labels efficiently, as well as an optional unwinder add-on. The TM-C3500 also has a cutter that maintains a mean time between failures of 88,000 and prints labels as wide as 42 inches. The LX2000 prints labels as far as eight inches.
Price
At a glance, the LX2000 costs $3,695, more than the TM-C3500’s price of $1,850. However, the LX2000 listing on our site is $300 cheaper than the traditional price of $3,995. A print head for the LX2000 costs $142.95.
The LX2000 features more options for printing labels on a variety of different products. For more information on either of these options, contact us through our inquiry form.
