Pringles is a well-known potato chip brand with a rounded, wrap-around can. According to Mashable, the famous snack label will make the transition to a scented candle package soon as part of a test run in UK supermarkets. The source emphasizes that this is initially just a test and could end up not leading to a full-fledged product line, as only 500 products have been made so far.
Whether or not it ends up being a success, the combination of Pringles and candles does seem to make sense from a design standpoint. Photos of the Cheesy Cheese, Texas BBQ and Pigs in a Blanket-scented candles show a similar coloring and placement to the full-size cans, along with the “Merry Pringles” heading to denote the season.
In addition to the familiar design, the three different “flavors” also have different colored candle wax, which contrasts with the snowy white edge at the top of the label, as well as the metal of the container. The labels feature colorful images related to each scent as well, to tie in with the familiar association of the foodstuff.
The company has admitted that this product is a work in progress. An unnamed spokesperson told the source in a email that “the candles are particularly pungent, so we might need to scale back on the odour before unleashing them on a mass scale next year.”
For companies that already have established food and beverage labels and want to make similar candle labels, managing the printing and designing process in-house puts the tools at your fingertips.
