Immune-boosting foods help prevent disease during the flu season

In the midst of the flu season, food manufacturers, show owners and other businesses working within the food industry would be wise to encourage their patrons and consumers to adopt a healthy diet in the fight against one of the worst winter flues this country has experienced in a long time. A diet of fruits and vegetables, as well as other immune-boosting foods, will help keep one’s body strong and protect it from illness. Businesses that use food labels to show the nutrition of their products are likely to see a higher return on investment.

HealthDay News reported that U.S. officials recommend individuals frequently wash their hands during the flu season while dieticians point to incorporating a healthy diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics described that immune-boosting foods will help prevent the flu and other diseases.

“A strong immune system doesn’t guarantee your body can fight off every flu bug, but it is a powerful defense,” Heather Mangieri, a registered dietitian and academy spokesperson, said in a prepared statement. “Good nutrition is essential to a strong immune response.”

Protein, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E are important to consume on a daily basis and the type of foods that encompass these nutritious substances include meat, poultry, eggs, sweet potatoes, carrots, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, almonds and spinach.

The New York Times also reported on the potential for letting restaurant-goers know about the healthy foods available at an establishment. Restaurant-owner Emmanuel Verstraeten is looking to incorporate a logo into his menus that describes which foods are healthy for a patron.

Businesses within the food industry would be wise to incorporate custom labels onto their products to show which items are healthy and immune-boosting. Acquiring an LX900 color label printer could also help companies develop the type of food labels that make their products stand out within a grocery store.
