Argentina’s burgeoning wine industry is causing Jose Manuel Ortega Gil-Fournier, a former investment banker turned vintner, to sell up to 140 hectares of land in the country’s fertile Uco Valley that has been planted with the popular malbec grapes for only $150,000 per hectare.
In addition, Gil-Fournier also promises to do all the work in maintaining the vineyards. To many investors this seems to be quite a deal considering Gil-Fournier has produced 93-point and 94-point wines which, according to BusinessWeek, help distinguish himself from the rest of the Mendoza province – the country’s wine capital.
Clearly, more consumers are set to see Argentine wines in stores than previously.
According to an article on Argentine wine on the branding blog Labels and Labeling, the graphic style of these wines’ custom labels alludes to the heritage of Old World wines while incorporating elements of the South American country’s own cultural influences. The blog says that this has caused a classic typography with some “sober designs” and contemporary graphic language.
The article also argues that it’s critical for wineries to use either their heritage or location to create a story for their brand as a means to set them apart from their competitors.
“The absence of concepts leads to a generic label, a graphic template with no personality, without direction,” writes Guillermo Dufranc Labels and Labeling, who is also a designer at Tridimage. “It is not possible to design a wine with personality without having a clear idea of the brand message to convey.”
Regardless of a winery’s terroir or locality, it’s important for companies to distinguish their brands with a unique story and create a market niche. Designing custom labels is an excellent way to accomplish this marketing need. By using a Primera LX900 series color label printer, business owners can design the best labels for their company’s brand.
