Creative approaches to seasonal ‘holiday scented’ candles

The Yankee Candle brand is so large and present in the market that it’s almost like the Jelly Belly of scented candles, with ideas and fragrances for even the most abstract of ideas. To get an idea of the kinds of approaches you can take to your own candle labels, it might bear some examining of the company’s spring seasonal offering, Peeps-scented candles.

Yes, this is a tie-in with Peeps, the popular candy marshmallow that often chooses shapes reminiscent of holiday imagery. Around the critical time of Easter, these include bunnies and baby chicks. But because there’s another brand sharing the front of the candle, the color labeling is important to express the link between the two companies.

WGGB investigated the production that goes into Yankee Candle at this time of year by visiting the official factory in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. Here, Wade Bassett explained the enduring popularity of this brand.

“It’s very traditional for a lot of folks,” Bassett said. “They have been coming for years and years. We started this store in 1983, so we celebrated 30 years last year and with a ton of stories with people who grew up here that are now bringing their kids here as well.”

Candle labels need to be designed specifically for the product. In the case of something both decorative and functional, you need to consider making labels that let customers contrast the color of the candle with the colors on the label to ensure visibility for your brand.

As the press release on the Peeps candle describes, the product also comes with a small part of the label indicating the year that it was manufactured, another thing that your business can consider.
