Primera recently announced the new LX2000 Color Label Printer, a desktop model that includes special features for adapting to computers that run Windows and printing colorful, durable labels. One of its biggest competitors is the VIPColor VP 495 Color Label Printer. Though the latter is particularly useful for printing GHS industrial chemical labels, both printers are versatile and have some of the same functions. How do they match up against each other?
Here are some of the biggest similarities and differences between these models and how they compare:
Cost
The VP495 costs $2,999 per printer, while the LX2000 costs $3,995 (though it’s only $3,695 in the OptiMedia Labs store). However, interested companies should consider the additional costs of label stock and ink. A Primera pigment ink cartridge pack is available for $142.95, and the pigment ink cartridges for the VP495 are available individually.
Ink
While both printers use separate CMYK pigment ink cartridges, the VP495 requires a special VIPColor Durable Ink print head for compatibility. The LX2000 is already capable of printing this ink, and does so in 4800 dpi resolution, as opposed to the 1200 by 1200 dpi print quality of the VP495.
Network adaptability
As an older model, the VP495 incorporates an ethernet base 10/100 base T network adapter. The LX2000 has USB and Ethernet wireless connection options, and includes drivers for use with Windows Vista, 7 and 8. The VP495 also includes drivers for Windows and a USB cord.
Printing speed
Although speed depends on the type of printing, the VP495 generally prints as fast as 3.8 inches of label per second, while the LX2000 prints as much as 6 inches per second, in full color.
