In an Mlive article about the Michigan-based New Holland Brewing Company, Joel Petersen, the company’s Vice President of Marketing, described a new makeover the brand will receive in March. As the brand launches two new beers, it will also introduce shoppers to a sleeker design, in an attempt to “reduce the noise” on its labels. What does this mean, and how can a color label printer help businesses do this for their food and beverage labels?
On both the beer bottle itself and the surrounding materials, too much text can be a confusing liability. At the same time, providing information can draw attention, as can distinctive graphics and use of color.
New Holland’s different brews each use a separate dominant color, image and font, yet the brand is tied together through the placement of the graphics. Although six-pack containers for “The Poet” and “Monkey King” drinks each look specific, for example, the way the main name is oriented reinforces the connection, as does the white paneled background. Each of these holders also feature a small box with adjectives pertaining to the beer, giving consumers another way to tell them apart.
With an Afinia L801 Memjet Color Label Printer, businesses can print detailed labels with coloring for each type of beverage in particular. Using the standard CKYM cartridges, companies can produce labels with a resolution as high as 1600 x 1600 on glossy or other kinds of stock for a specific texture and combination of elements.
The quality of the shading can also suggest a weathered quality, which could give the labels a familiar and reassuring style. A company can also start manufacturing labels within a short period of time, allowing for quick production times that can speed up production as a whole.
