The month of October has several food and drink associations. In addition to Oktoberfest, there’s the different scents and tastes that the mere name of the season suggests, including the popular pumpkin derivatives that can be popular around this time.
But effective communication is important in this area. Since “pumpkin” is such a popular prefix this time of year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the actual amount of pumpkin included in these products can be exaggerated, as a Huffington Post article points out. Making labels that prominently feature the image of a pumpkin as part of either a new or already existing logo might seem festive and desirable, but it could also be misleading.
One article on the Chicago Reader pointed out that the presence of pumpkin in certain beers isn’t a given, even if it’s described as such.
“I started doing research, and learned that some pumpkin beers aren’t even brewed with pumpkin and are really just spiced beers,” contributor Julia Thiel writes. “Whether or not brewing with pumpkin adds a distinct flavor is the subject of ongoing debate; some brewers argue that it does, some that it doesn’t.”
While there’s few gourds that sum up a feeling and a time of year as well as this particular orange specimen, it’s important not to exaggerate the presence of something like this just to get more attention. Quality and honesty is the better route to go, and with a color label printer on your side, you can make vivid and memorable images that celebrate the season without hiding important facts about your product.
