Shipping labels crucial during holidays

Preparing for holiday shipments? In addition to appealing, accurate labels on the items themselves, you should also make sure your company has the printing solutions to ensure proper shipping. December is a high-volume month for package deliveries, and the right label-making tools will give your business assurance that all orders will be made on time.

CBS Minnesota-affiliate WCCO recently reported on the intense holiday traffic the mail and shipping industries expect to see this year. According to the source, Monday, December 15, is setting records for shipping, with FedEx estimated to transport more than 22 million packages alone.

The United States Postal Service is also predicting 470 million package deliveries for the season, with cargo numbers 12 percent higher this year than last. To make up for this increased customer activity, several post offices are using special Sunday hours to account for extra and late shipments.

With all of this effort surrounding the holiday, companies need to make sure that their product labels won't be damaged in transition or by constant handling. WCCO lists several tips for consumers that could also apply for businesses, particularly when it comes to preparing for shipping label mishaps.

"Sometimes winter weather can streak or remove shipping labels and paperwork can get lost from pouches," the source's Ashley Roberts writes. "Just in case, always put an extra shipping label, business card or letterhead with the shipper and recipient's address information inside your box before sealing things up." Roberts also recommends that use an accurate label that is properly applied and won't peel off.

Account for bar code labels and other essentials of shipping with a printing system that is adaptable to your needs. Not only are color and clarity important considerations, but labels need to be made of the right material to withstand a country-wide journey.
