Pick the right color labels for this year’s holiday cookies

Every Christmas cookie has its own type of marketing that will best suit it.

Bakeries have the opportunity to increase business during the holidays, and cookies are a common sight on store shelves every year. The Christmas season in particular features many different types of cookies that can each come with their own unique packaging and bakery labels.

Bustle recently listed some of the most common kind of Christmas cookies and the connotations that accompany them. These include gingerbread men, which are sometimes wrapped in see-through plastic, peppermint bark and pfeffernüsse. The last is a small spice cookie packaged in a brightly colored tin and presented on a layer of wax paper.

Of course, all of this focus on the holiday spirit shouldn’t take away from one of the main purposes of food labels, which is to describe the ingredients in the product. In the case of cookies, nuts and possible allergens are a concern, and making labels that are both festive and informative is important for customers.

The pfeffernüsse cookie is sometimes called “peppernut,” and while the name could mislead consumers into thinking this cookie contains nuts, Mary Pepitone writes otherwise for the Kansas City Star.

“There are so many varieties of peppernuts, and while some actually contain nuts, I think its name comes from the size, spiciness and hardness of the cookie, and because they can be eaten in quantity, the same way one might eat nuts,” she writes.

Use custom printed labels to accomplish all of your holiday marketing goals at once and help customers get the best glimpse of your cookies. With an adjustable printer like the Primera LX900, you can create pieces for application on plastic, cardboard or other surfaces. This will let you slightly change each piece based on the material of the label and the packaging you are working with.
