New e-cigarette restrictions come to Ontario

Ontario will institute an age ban on e-cigarettes as part of new legislation.

Last month, the Canadian province of Ontario approved the Making Healthier Choices Act, new legislation that concerns tobacco sale. The new regulations will impact electronic cigarettes and vaporizers, including instigating an age limit on their sale that will go into effect January 1, 2016.

The Toronto Sun says that these rules fill a gap in legislation, creating fresh standards for smokers to be aware of. Similarly, companies that produce e-cigarettes for sale in Ontario might have new labeling concerns to consider in the wake of these rules. Advertising will be banned in stores and anyone under 19 will not be able to purchase electronic cigarettes.

Another related provision of the Act will ban the sale of flavored tobacco and the use of electronic cigarettes in the same places where traditional tobacco smoking isn’t allowed.

While proponents of vaporizers claim they help address addiction, the government views itself as setting up a new framework for e-cigarette use. The Sun quotes Dipika Damerla, Associate Health Minister for Ontario, who addressed the other effects of the Act, including its new call for restaurant calorie counts on menus.

“It really puts Ontario at the forefront on so many counts, especially in Canada, but I would say across North America,” she said. “We’re among the first jurisdictions in Canada and North America to ban menthol cigarettes and definitely the first jurisdiction in Canada to now have calorie counts in Ontario’s chain restaurants.”

For e-cigarette companies, maintaining a suitable printer is important for creating colorful and compliant labels. An adaptable model like the Primera LX900 creates bright and eye-catching labels. Another cost-effective option is the Afinia L801 Color Label Printer, which will help your business produce varying sizes of labels at high volumes.
