More American consumers are looking for items labeled ‘Made in U.S.A’

USA

Although many goods and services were outsourced overseas by major retailers and manufacturers to keep costs low during the last recession, more American consumers are looking for items that are locally-sourced and made by American-based businesses.

So-called “mom-and-pop” stores have been popular for a long time, but now more large companies are adding “Made in U.S.A” labels to their products to remind consumers that these goods support jobs for fellow Americans.

The holiday season is one of the best opportunities to highlight this label, but tacking on these tags on individual products year-round can be valuable as more Americans are looking to purchase these goods.

“A well-chosen gift is always a treat, but if that gift supports our neighbors, our communities, or our country, it will be appreciated even more dearly,” Sarah Wagner, a popular blogger who focuses on domestically made goods, told NBC News. “If consumers realize how good they feel about buying or receiving gifts made here, they will then take the time to at least look for and ask for the ‘Made in USA’ label during the rest of the year.”

In fact, larger businesses like Cracker Barrel and Wal-Mart are doing their part to spread the word about their American-made products by displaying “Made in U.S.A” sections on their websites and in-store inventory.

Because more retailers are pushing items produced in the United States, companies hoping to benefit from domestic manufacturing may need a quality color label printer to make sure their brand stands out on store shelves.
