Cooking teacher emphasized importance of healthy eating

Those working in the food industry have likely noticed the emphasis on healthy diets and better food choices among the general public. This may include organic, soy foods or just a diet of fruits and vegetables. Utilizing customized food labels on one’s products could also provide a new venue for manufacturers to gain a higher consumer base.

The Boston Globe outlined in a new article one cooking teacher’s opinion on healthy eating. Lori Leinbach, who graduated from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in 1995, told the source that more young adults and children have gained an interest in cooking through watching the Food Network. Leinbach went on to explain that there are a number of parents who do not cook meals for their children but the adolescents still show an interest in the culinary arts.

“They’re very concerned about the shelf life of things,” Leinbach talked about her students. “I think there’s a lot of fear that they’re going to poison their families. They’re crazy on the subject of freshness dates. For example, milk, the date on that carton, it’s supposed to be fresh two weeks from that date. But people will see that date on that milk carton and throw it out … And students are more concerned about doneness as far as food … And because they’re not sure how to tell, they’ll overcook everything, which is really a shame.”

The Mother Nature Network reported that more people have been sticking to their New Year’s resolutions and incorporating healthy foods in their diet. With such a strong favor of nutritious products, manufacturers would be wise to utilize an LX900 color label printer to showcase custom food labels that attract a health-conscious consumer base.
