Users of Rapid Labels printers should take note of a recent business split that terminates the company’s partnership with Memjet. According to a recent article in packaging source What They Think?, Memjet is ending its license agreement with the Australian company Rapid Packaging Services. Starting three years from now, businesses that rely on Rapid printers will be unable to buy more ink.
Although Memjet has not said specifically why the contract has been terminated, the article features comments from a spokesperson who said that negotiations are currently ongoing between the two companies and that there is an “ebb and flow” in their relationship. Because Rapid is the only OEM developer working with Memjet, the deal will most likely affect its presence in the print industry eventually.
Rapid’s founder, Bruce Mansell, told the source that the move came as a shock to Rapid since they have been working together as partners for so long.
“We have been paying in advance for print engines, heads and ink,” Mansell said. “We have not been given any legitimate reason why Memjet is cutting us off after years of pioneering work deploying their technology in the digital label printing sector.”
