With proper labeling, pharmaceutical companies will be sure that customers receive their correct medications. Pharmacy business Walgreen Co. has, according to The Wall Street Journal, recently had to deal with an error that left some of its customers with the wrong medicine labels.
More than 8,000 store locations were affected when a system error led to crashes as well as the labeling discrepancy. Though a representative of the company, Chuck Greener, said that the number of customers who should be concerned about this was lower than 1 percent, the company did reach out to customers who may have received improperly labeled medicine.
The accident was caused when “routine maintenance went awry,” according to the source. The company told managers that “outside of receiving warehouse and putting it up, all other inventory related tasks can be paused.”
The initial problem occurred on Friday, August 22, and the majority of affected patients were reportedly contacted by the end of the weekend. The labels of the medications were said to be “hard to understand,” but Greener said that the mishap should not be considered a mislabeling.
Still, businesses that maintain their own industrial label printers have a higher degree of quality control and are able to ensure accidents like this don’t happen. The printers offered by Optimedia Labs are easy to use and capable of producing massive amounts of packaging.
We also provide the systems you need to make barcodes, shipping labels and other products necessary for cataloging and transporting inventory. This includes making sure that the label is in the right language and ensuring that all the right codes and symbols are legible and properly placed.
