State fairs make excellent marketing opportunities for beer, wine and other producers

State fairs and festivals have always been a popular destination during the summer and also an event that helps bring in customers for many local businesses. One thing that these fairs have begun to include as a consistent main feature is that of local beer and wine competitions.

One such example is the upcoming Kentucky State Fair, which hosts homemade and commercial competitions for Kentucky-made wines and beers. On August 18, the overall competitions for both homemade and commercial wine and homemade beer will take place.

In order for wineries to enter the homemade competition, their wine labels must not be commercially affiliated at all. In addition, for any wine to be accepted in any competition it must be made from at least 75 percent Kentucky-grown grapes or other fruit that has been grown in-state. Because the competition is putting such an influence on locality, it may benefit companies to design custom labels that promote its Kentucky connections.

There is only one competition for beer and that is the Homemade Beer Competition.

On August 19, the fair will also host a label contest which is open only to the beer competition’s participants. The competition’s judges will base their decisions on creativity, originality, aesthetic appeal, appropriation for beer style and whether the beer is entered in the correct class.

With many state fairs not only holding overall beverage and food competitions but also specific label competitions, it’s no wonder that many breweries, wineries and other producers create specific labels and recipes just for the competition.

If any of these businesses are competing in label contests or competitions any time soon, they may want to invest in a Primera LX900 color label printer to help produce these custom labels specifically designed for the competition.
