Information in a release from charity Oxfam details which countries out of a list of 125 different nations manage to feed their citizens the best. A key tool in the effort to get this done can be food labels that accurately represent contents and lead consumers to eat healthily.
According to this media brief, the criteria examined in this report included whether citizens were able to get food “Good Enough to Eat” (the name of the campaign), and what the quality of that food is like. The best country, based on these findings, was the Netherlands, which displayed “lower food prices and diabetes levels, and better nutritional diversity.” Other high-ranking countries were France, Australia, Switzerland and Sweden.
However, this study noted that these countries also tended to have a high level of obesity in their populations. As Oxfam’s Max Lawson told NPR in a recent interview, there’s a massive contradictory problem observable in the U.S.: lots of money and food, but also lots of dietary problems.
“Food is very, very cheap in the U.S. compared to most countries,” Lawson said. “But the fact is you end up with people malnourished in one of the richest countries because they don’t have access to fresh vegetables at a cheap enough price to make a balanced diet.”
Just as labels can be an important part of helping out in an emergency, the Primera LX Series Label Printers could suggest a surprisingly good way to maintain stability in these countries and keep residents aware of the healthy options they have.
