After the dissolution of iconic bread and pastry manufacturer Hostess, the fate of its popular brands was up in the air for a while. The well-known cupcake and snack names were put up for auction among other competitor companies.
The owner of the well-known Wonder Bread brand is now Flowers Foods, and according to the Delaware News Journal, the brand has begun officially reappearing in stores after the temporary hiatus.
When a product is seen to “return” like this, producers have options on whether or not they highlight the “new” aspect of this product, as it’s not something they necessarily have to do. While making labels that draw attention to the time this line of items spent off of the shelves could be a good marketing technique, it might also be best to keep producing the same brands without any changes so as not to alarm consumers unnecessarily.
On the other hand, as a CNN Money feature recently pointed out, the Twinkie brand is taking advantage of the recent changes by overtly addressing them on the box with the lines “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever” in bright red font.
With the right food labels, a message can be sent to consumers that tells them everything they need to know about a revamped item and its new owner. This information might slip by customers who aren’t aware of the news that has led to rebranding or reconstruction, which is why your company can work toward packing as much text as possible on the packaging in meaningful ways.
