Custom labeling grows in hospitality industry

The trend of creating custom labels for wine and spirits at high-end hotels and hospitality companies has started to catch on throughout the world. The Leela chain of hotels and resorts in India has set an August debut of custom-designed wine and whiskey labels for its more financially mature clients. These customers will be given, as part of staying at the hotel or resort, a bottle of their choice with a label customized by the hotel.

But, the high-end Leela chain isn’t the only one wooing customers with high-quality labels. Major hotels around the world such as the Four Seasons, the Ritz in London, Emporium Hotel in Australia and many others have started to create their own custom labels for either in-house restaurants or customers.

Although many major international chains have begun publishing these labels for their customers, small- to medium-sized businesses and wineries in the United States have caught on to the practice as well. Most recently, Northwest Cellars Winery in Kirkland, Washington, indicated it was expanding its tasting room as the company starts to ride the success they’ve generated from producing custom wine labels for their clients.

“We are somewhat unique in the wine business with the custom label option for our wines,” says proprietor and winemaker Bob Delf.

According to an article from Food and Wine Magazine, wine labels maintain a level of regard among enthusiasts. The customization of these labels is finally starting to be offered to consumers as a selling point. Food and Wine interviewed Chuck House, author of the book ICON about wine labels, on the importance of a good label. House says, “A wine label is all about getting someone to ask a question. A great label should stimulate a conversation.”

If other businesses wish to expand into offering custom labeled wines or spirits to clients to help stimulate conversation and overall satisfaction, utilizing a Primera LX400 color label printer to print these high quality labels is an efficient way to tap into this growing trend.
